16TH ANNUAL TOY DRIVE NOW UNDERWAY!
Looking for an easy way to make the world a little more enjoyable for some of the less fortunate kids in Mexico? Join me for the 16th Annual "Operation: Merry Christmas!" event scheduled for December 22nd, 2006.
Each year we roundevous with a few groups of friends in California and load up our vans with kids and new toys, then we drive to Mexico to deliver them. After an initial stop at an orphanage in Tijuana, we randomly drive the dirt streets on the outskirts of town looking for the children and families most in need.
Although parents are involved in organizing the event and in the driving down of the vehicles, our children get directly involved in personally handing the toys to the kids in these Mexico neighborhoods. It is a very special day for everyone, for many reasons.
It's a win-win situation all around. Our children get to brighten the lives of dozens of kids in Mexico by giving them gifts they would ordinarily never even dream of receiving, and our kids get to enjoy the genuine feeling of sharing with other kids much less fortunate than themselves.
"Operation: Merry Christmas!" has been an annual event for 16 years now, but this is the first year that we have opened up donations to the on-line public. Our goal for 2006 is to see if we can get additional people involved with the event by accepting donations of $5 (or more) which we will use to purchase additional items to take down to Mexico.
In addition to bringing down toys for the kids, we also bring down blankets and clothing for the adults. Depending upon the response to this year's event, we hope to be sharing some of our funds with the Mexican Red Cross to help the victims of Hurricane Juan. The village of Mulege, in Baja California Sur, received significant damage this year and the residents of this once beautiful Mexico oasis need all the help they can get.
"Operation: Merry Christmas!" is a non-denominational, non-profit event. We are simply a small group of people from the United Stated who try to brighten up the lives of those less fortunate in Mexico.
If you are interested in financially participating in this year's event you can send funds to Chuck Chambers / Operation Merry Christmas at the address below, or to Chuck Chambers via Pay Pal using the account email@example.com.
