TECATE, BAJA CALIFORNIA, MEXICO

Being a hop, skip and a jump from the U.S. border is just one of the advantages of visiting Tecate. The great beer factory is another! The town features excellent restaurants and bars, clean hotels, mucho shopping, and even an 18 hole golf course, Rancho Tecate. The Health Spa RANCHO LA PUERTA has been voted one of the best spas in the world! The Tecate Museum is also a local attraction to enjoy, and Baja wine country is just a short drive from town.

Campers and R.V.'s can take advantage of the TECATE KOA CAMPGROUND (telephone 011-52 (665) 655-3014). It's open all year long and offers most of the amenities you will find in the KOA's in the U.S.A., including a pool, restaurant and laundry facilities!

For a relaxing place to stay not far from the U.S. border try Rancho Veronica. Located about 30 minutes west of Tecate 7 miles off of the toll road at El Hunga, this hidaway offers clean rooms, a pool, tennis courts and horseback riding!

Jens K. of BAJA-WEB has put together the best collection of information on Tecate on his web site. Put on your seat belt and check it out! JEN'S TECATE!

YOUR FIRST STOP IN TOWN

Looking for a good place to park your car and enjoy a cold drink? How about the 19th hole (that's the bar) at the local golf course Rancho Tecate? Prefer something with a little more culture? The Tecate Museum near the center of town can be an interesting place to spend an hour or so, but you'll have to leave the premisis for that cold drink.

THE GRINGO FACTOR

Although very few Gringos live in Tecate, enough of them drop by for a visit to give the town a bit of a touristy feeling. There are no extended shopping areas here like the Baja border towns of Tijauna and Rosarito Beach, but there are enough stores and restaurants to make walking around town a worthwhile adventure.

THE BEST OF TECATE

Rancho La Puerta is one of the most famous Spas in the world, and it is located just west of Tecate. This unique piece of heaven has been refuge for the rich and famous for decades, and only seems to get better with age. Most visitors stay for one week, although there are plenty of folks who unpack here and then stay for extended periods, dreading the day they have to return to the real world. The Ranch is set in a private area of low hills, and walks through these hills is often part of the total Spa experience. Excellent facilites, world class cuisine and friendly staff combine to provide an unforgettable experience.

For more information visit the RANCHO LA PUERTA web site.

CARLOS FIESTA'S HOT TIP:

It would be wrong to visit Tecate without a visit to the Tecate Brewery, especially if you like to drink beer! This brewery has been a major employer in town for many years, and is a fun place to take a tour. After taking a first hand look at the facilities here you'll never look at a can of Tecate the same way again.
